Dig Out Your Fancy Pearls, The Actual Castle From ‘Downton Abbey’ Is On Airbnb Now

Downton Abbey

Highclere Castle – the grand home of Downton Abbey – is on Airbnb. I repeat, the castle Mary fell in love with Matthew in IS ON AIRBNB.

To celebrate the release of Downton Abbey, the movie, the actual Earl and Countess of Carnarvon are inviting two guests to stay overnight at their humble abode.

Can you imagine conversing with your host, a Lady – an actual Lady – on your Airbnb app? ‘Coz I can’t.

“It’s an absolute privilege and pleasure to call Highclere Castle my home and I am delighted to be able to share it on Airbnb for a truly unique stay,” her grandness (?? I don’t know ??) said in a presser. “Highclere Castle has been in the Carnarvon family since 1679 and has an incredibly rich history. I am passionate about the stories and heritage of Highclere Castle, and I am looking forward to welcoming our future guests.”

Just like any other listing on Airbnb, there are some very serious rules. Strictly one butler per person; all newspapers must be ironed; gossip is restricted to downstairs quarters only, cocktail dress is de riguer for dinner; and no smoking. Easy peasy lemon squeezy if you ask me.

On a serious note, Highclere Castle is only available for a one night stay for up to two fans on November 26, 2019. It’ll send you back £150 inclusive (AUD$231.89).

Guests will be given ~exclusive~ access to the castle and its grounds, including cocktails in the Saloon, an extravagant traditional dinner in the castle’s State Dining Room, and coffee in the Library. C’MON NOW. You’ll even be waited on by Highclere’s own Carson.

Reservation opportunities will begin October 1, 2019 at 12PM BST which is 9PM AEST.

Downton Abbey, the movie, continues the delightful and sometimes heartbreaking saga of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them as they prepare for a royal visit from King George and Queen Mary.

Beloved series favourites Maggie SmithHugh Bonneville, my husband Matthew Goode, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Joanne Froggatt, Imelda Staunton, Elizabeth McGovern, Penelope Wilton, and Allen Leech all return.

From what I’m seeing in all the reviews, the movie is 100 per cent a wonderful time at the cinema. And, it’s complete fan service which is everything I want and more.

Downton Abbey is in cinemas now.
