Grab Yr Melons, ’Cos A ‘Dirty Dancing’ Immersive Cinema Is Hitting Syd & Melb

Are you think kind of hopeless romantic who 100% watches 80s romcoms like ‘Dirty Dancing‘ over and over until you find you’re wearing legwarmers and quietly wishing someone like 80s Patrick Swayze would sweep you off your feet?

Yeah nah, me either. I definitely haven’t sat and rewatched the staff dance scene over and over just to see those iconic hips be barely contained.

Get your watermelon-carrying arms ready, cos punters in Sydney and Melbourne will be able to travel back in time for an afternoon of 60s bliss with a fully immersive showing of Dirty Dancing at The Domain on March 15, 16, and 17, and at Flemington Racecourse on March 2223, and 24. All of the events are all ages, so if you have a sibling/friend/relative under 18 who hasn’t been blessed by one of the best romcoms known to mankind, then they’re about to get a serious education.

80s romcom fans can dress up in their finest linen leisure suits and have the time of their lives as they step into a reimagined, life-size Kellermans Guest House resort, complete with a bunch of actors and dancers playing the part of the Waterhouse’s vaycay spot in 1960s America.

Think dance classes for folks with two left feet like Baby, crafting, leisurely sports, and a golf range. Cool off with some fancy cocktails and deeply inspired snacks. But as is the law in Catskills, New York in the summer of ’63 – the staff quarters are strictly off-limits.

Don’t forget your camera if you want to capture some of the memories of the balmy evening before the movie flickers on at 8.30, because you’ll have to bag your phone on entry. You want an authentic 60s experience, and you’ll get it. No Instagram back then, my friends.

Tickets for the Dirty Dancing Immersive Cinema sessions go on sale midday Monday, November 19 from Ticketmaster, with a couple of cheeky presales happening from Frontier and Underground Cinema at midday on Thursday, November 17.
