Pop icon Demi Lovato has revealed on Twitter that they are non-binary and go by they/them pronouns, and we love to see it!!
Demi came out via Twitter, and shared a series of tweets talking about their journey as well as a video from their podcast.
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo

They said that their decision came after a lot of “healing and self-reflective work”, and that they are “still learning” and coming into their true self but that sharing their pronouns and identity was a way to open another level of vulnerability with fans.
“Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras,” Demi told fans in their video discussing their new non-binary identity.
Today is a day I'm so happy to share more of my life with you all- I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary & will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward ????

“I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones.”
In their first episode of their new weekly podcast called 4D With Demi Lovato, Demi discussed their journey with performer and author Alok Vaid Menon, who is also non-binary and known for their break downs of gender stereotypes. Demi talked about how Alok and Sam Smith (!!!) were huge impacts on their self-image, helping Demi realise their non-binary status. Demi also mentioned that having to suppress their identity was a contributor to their mental health struggles and near-fatal overdose in 2018.
The reveal also comes just months after Demi came out as pansexual and talked about it on Joe Rogan‘s podcast. Paired with their recent YouTube doco series about their overdose and all the traumatic factors that led to and came after it, Demi Lovato has been through A LOT. But despite all that, it seems they’re really coming to a point where things are looking up, and I’m honestly so happy to see the emotional glow up.
It’s been a long, harrowing road, but I’m glad Demi is finally reaching a point where they feel like they’re healing and growing into their identity.
