Firstly, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills‘ star Kyle Richards is getting her own TV show inspired by her life, called ‘American Woman‘. Secondly, Clueless icon Alicia Silverstone is set to play the show’s main character – Richards’ motherfucking mum?
Don’t worry, we’re in agreement that it’s a complete mind-fuck too.
Weird and wonderful shit’s been happening in the realms of reality television of late – including The Hills’ anniversary and the unveiling of the Real Housewives of Sydney – but this takes the cake (chiefly because it’s one of the few recorded cases of reality shows transcending their medium into fictional spin-offs).
American Woman is set in the only time when flare jeans were acceptable (the 70s) and has been described as a pretty dark comedy detailing a mother’s battle to raise her family / gain some R E S P E C T in a still entirely male-dominated period.
Bonnie Nolan, Silverstone’s character, leads an idealistic life with her #stunning home and three #beautiful children. Unfortunately her husband is putting his penis in places where he shouldn’t, causing the marriage to fail and leaving Nolan flat on her ass.
As the show’s been flagged as loosely portraying Richards’ life, the three aforementioned children Nolan’s raising would be Kyle herself (notorious house stealer), Kim (fellow RHOBH star) and Kathy (Paris Hilton‘s mother). Detailing those three in a fictional manner would probs be quality TV in and of itself, tbh.
I reckon American Woman will either be the biggest hunk of shit to have ever reared its fugly head on full-colour television, or somewhat enjoyable. There’s support, however, that it might turn out alright considering one of 30 Rock’s writers John Riggi shall be penning the script, and the show will be co-executive produced by John Wells and Andrew Stearn (producers on The West Wing, Southland and Shameless).
If this venture does flop, though, I guess Kyle could just start some cataclysmic wine throwing sequence that causes her to be crowned Queen of Reality if she wanted.
