Chelsea Peretti, Human 100 Emoji, Is Officially Leaving ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

Chelsea Peretti, who has played the inimitable Gina Linetti on Brooklyn Nine-Nine since day dot, has announced she will be leaving the 99th Precinct as a full-time cast member.

Taking to Twitter, your very most favourite civilian administrator and iPhone addict announced she will only appear in part of the revived show for its sixth season.

She then co-opted the message Emmy Rossum delivered when she revealed her intention to depart Shameless earlier this year, reiterating Rossum’s statement that “This kind of stability, this family, has nurtured me and made feel safe enough to stretch and grow creatively.”

Producer Dan Goor, the brains behind the operation, issued his own statement on Peretti’s departure.

“We have tried really hard to create a storyline for her departure that lives up to a character who can only be described as “the human embodiment of the 100 emoji,””, Goor wrote.

“While it’s sad to see a member of the family leave, we are so proud of Chelsea and excited for what she does next.”

It’s important to note Goor’s statement that she’ll be back in some capacity, at some point, which is a definite bright spot in an otherwise saddening situation for die-hard fans.

Her departure marks the first major shake-up of the B99 cast, which has been pretty much locked down since the show’s premiere back in 2013.

As for how the show handles her departure, well, you’ll all just have to wait for it to hit Australian screens after its slated arrival on American television some time in the middle of next year. Feel free to be mighty sad until then, though.
