Preeminent destroyer of the peace, Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow), will take his third crack at blowing up the White House in his latest special effects-laden action blockbuster dressed as political thriller, White House Down. The film sees the fate of the free world resting on Channing Tatum’s buff shoulders, with the ex-military secret service reject finally given an opportunity to save Jamie Foxx’s nerdlinger president, coincidentally taking his daughter on a tour through the White House on the exact same day that terrorists strike.
Yes, it sounds super dumb but it also looks like a pretty good excuse to watch shit go boom. The film also co-stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Woods as frazzled CIA agents, with Jason Clarke leading a group of mercenaries in a bid to blow-up Washington DC and overthrow the President. Obviously overthrowing the President is running a distant second to blowing stuff up in true Emmerich form.
