Carrie Fisher’s Beloved Pooch Gary Is Going To Live With His Best Doggo M8

It’s only been a mere 24-odd hours since the passing of the hugely beloved and important Carrie Fisher, but it already feels like an ocean of time. There’s been a tsunami of emotional outpouring from friends, colleagues, and fans the world over for Fisher, who died at the age of just 60 following a massive heart attack.

But in the wake of all that emotion and mourning for Fisher, who not only was responsible for one of the most iconic characters in film history but was perhaps the most fierce and notable advocate for mental health awareness in the entertainment industry, there is – at least – some good news. And it concerns Fisher’s beloved dog Gary Fisher.
It’s been revealed that efforts to look after wee little Gary are already well underway, and he will officially be moving in with his best dog friend.
Carrie’s daughter, Billie Lourd, will reportedly take full custody of Gary, with the french bulldog (with a tongue that, gosh darn it, just won’t stay in his mouth) set to move in with the 24-year-old actor.
Lourd already has another french bulldog, a 2-year-old little gal named Tina, with the two pooches reportedly already being “best friends,” according to TMZ.
Reports state that Carrie always wanted Billie to take care of Gary should something ever happen to her, and if for some reason Billie cannot take care of Gary long-term, arrangements are in place for the little guy to stay in the family.
Carrie adopted Gary as an emotional support animal to help her manage her well-documented bi-polar disorder, and the pair became practically inseparable. Through numerous public appearances, Gary himself became something of a dog icon, patiently sitting by Carrie’s side during countless TV interviews. Gary even made his late night debut a mere month ago, appearing by Carrie’s side on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.’

Gary was by Carrie’s side when the 60-year-old suffered a heart attack on a long-haul flight from London to Los Angeles, and reportedly visited Carrie’s bedside in hospital prior to her passing.
So despite how incredibly sad this whole thing is, at least there’s some comfort to be taken in the knowledge that Gary’s being well looked after.

You go live your best darned life, Gary.

General Organa will be waiting.
