Grab A Chup, ‘Cos YouTube Icon ‘Beached Az’ Is Back With A New Series

Prepare to feel old as hell: it’s been a full ten years since the debut of immortal YouTube video Beached Az. You might remember it – it goes a little something like this:

Ahh, memories.

The original short vid, which was lovingly expanded to a full series that aired on the ABC up to 2010, launched the career of Nick Boshier, who you might know from Bondi Hipsters and Trent from Punchy.

And now, a decade after the big blue New Zealand whale lamented its fully beached status with a wise-cracking, chip-wielding seagull, the team is back together for season two: the Beached Aziversary.

Funded by the good mates at Screen Australia and once again featuring Boshier along with co-producers Anthony Macfarlane and Jarod Green, the 10-ep series is currently in production and slated for a March 2019 release.

According to the blokes behind it, season two will tackle issues relating to ocean health, including “global warming, over-fishing, farmed-fishing, careless marine engineering, microbiology, pollution, coral bleaching, environmental neglect, and the old chestnut… unchecked capitalism.” Sounds like a laugh riot.

Rumours are that your mate and mine the beached blue whale will be teaming up with Greenpeace, WWF and the like to spread the much-needed message of environmental conservation (subtitle: The Oceans Are Fucked, What Do We Do, Oh Fuck, Oh No).

The new eps are set to air on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, where you can keep an eye on how things are shaping up until the release date.

While you wait, though, cop a look at the brand-new trailer for Beach Aziversary, feat. King Triton, the Scottish turtles, a bleached as bit of coral reef, and that fucken seagull surrounded by mountains of South American nose candy. Of course.
