WATCH: The ‘Beached Az’ Whale Returns After A Year To Serenade The NZ PM

Far out it’s been a hefty minute since we last heard from that loveable animated scamp the ‘Beached Az‘ whale.

The blue whale, who washed up on a beach in New Zealand sometime around 2008 and has been crackin’ wise about chups with a local seagull ever since, hasn’t been heard from much in the past handful of years since his ABC series left the airwaves in 2010.
But the happy little scamp, who helped launched the career of Bondi Hipster Nick Boshier, couldn’t let the passing of the torch from now ex-NZ PM John Key to his replacement Bill English go by without acknowledgement.
The first sketch in well over a year surfaced earlier today, with the seagull picking up a guitar to give a decidedly Aotearoa version of ‘Candle in the Wind‘ as a parting farewell to Key.
There’s even a sneaky key change in there, because certain puns are simply too good to leave on the shelf.

Jandals. I love New Zealanders, I really do. But that’s a word I simply refuse to abide.
Sounds like something you’d find stale and waiting in the rack at a late-night bakery: “Gimme one of them jandals and a loaf of bread sliced for toast.”

I do back that flag design forever, but. Even if it is no Laser Kiwi.
