Christmas can be a really tough time when your fam situation is complicated — strained relationships can become even more strained with all the forced celebrating, and a good chunk of the world’s population probably can’t wait for Dec 25 to be over. Even though she’s rich and famous, we know Ariana Grande isn’t immune to this kind of drama, so it’s nice to see some progress being made with her estranged father Edward Butera this festive season.
Ariana, 25, spoke to her dad, who she fell out with in 2013, on Christmas Day (US time) and posted a cute snap of their FaceTime session on her Instagram story.

You might recall Ari recently name-checking her dad, who split from her mum Joan Grande when Ariana was 8, in her already-iconic tune Thank U, Next with the lines: “One day I’ll walk down the aisle/Holding hands with my mama/I’ll be thanking my dad ’cause she grew from the drama.”
She’s also opened up about their fraught relationship in the past, telling Seventeen magazine back in 2014 about the “hardest” thing she’d dealt with at that point in her life.
Falling out of touch with my dad. It’s private, but it happened last year. It took me so long to be okay with it. The thing that got me there was embracing the fact that that I am made up of half my dad, and a lot of my traits come from him. So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself. I had to accept that it’s okay not to get along with somebody and still love them.
Okay so I knew Ariana was a queen but who knew she was so damn wise? That last sentence is too real.
