Animal Kingdom Ranks Among Quentin Tarantino’s Top Films of 2010

2010 was the year of Animal Kingdom or the year when David Michod’s visceral filial crime drama enjoyed near-unanimous critical praise, a Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, total domination at the 2010 AFI Awards, recognition in most critics’ end of year lists (including this one) and the faint possibility of Oscar nods and Golden Globe wins in the months to come. Not bad for a feature film debut.

But it doesn’t end there. In an auspicious start to Michod’s 2011, Quentin Tarantino has just ranked Animal Kingdom at number three in his commentary free list of 2010’s top 20 films. The Melbourne crime drama ranked above the likes of Oscar favourites The King’s Speech and The Kids Are All Right and just behind the near perfect Toy Story 3 and David Fincher zeitgeist capturer The Social Network. Since Michod was a former editor of Inside Film magazine we’ll assume he values peer appreciation over critical praise or maybe the complete opposite of that statement? I just don’t know. Check out the list most likely to face scrutiny from IMDB forum users below.
