Great (?) news for fans (?) of Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan: your favourite bald whiner/songwriter is gonna be on TV. In his own show. About wrestling. Specifically, a reality show on AMC that focuses on his trials and tribulations as creative director of Resistance Pro, a Chicago-based wrestling league.
According to Variety, “viewers will see Corgan create storylines, choreograph fights and manage intense post-match locker room arguments.” Corgan’s enthusiasm for the world of muscular men breaking folding chairs over each other has been simmering away for some time, but this show will give us the clearest picture yet of just how involved the man who once sang “The world is a vampire” is in it.
In the last few years AMC’s built up a reputation as a home of quality drama via shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad, but it looks like all that’s about to change. Aside from the as-yet-untitled Corgan show, it’s also recently picked up Game of Arms, a reality show about arm-wrestling, and All-Star Celebrity Bowling, which is exactly what you think it is. Weird.
