AMC Just Revealed a Heap of New ‘Better Call Saul’ Details

Breaking Bad, the wildly popular cable drama seen by everyone in the world except for me, is getting a spin-off next year in the form of Better Call Saul. Earlier today, the show’s creators revealed a bunch of new details which mean absolutely fuck all to me, but will probably excite and delight the hell out of you, since you read this far and cared enough to click in the first place.
First and foremost, creator and director Vince Gilligan says that the series will take place in 2002, which means that it’s set before the events of Breaking Bad. He added, however, that the show will have something of a flexible timeline. “You saw on Breaking Bad that we like nonlinear storytelling,” he said. Again, no idea, but sure! Excellent!
Today also saw the reveal of a number of new cast details. The very funny Bob Odenkirk will be playing the title character, while Jonathan Banks will also star. Michael McKean will play Chuck (who I’m guessing is not a smarmy trust fund sociopath in love with a girl named Blair Waldorf) while comedic actress Rhea Seehorn will plan Kim.
Patrick Fabian will portray a character called Hamlin and Michael Mando will play the delicious and possibly deadly Nacho. These characters, said Gilligan and his co-creator Peter Gould, will represent “both legitimate and illegitimate sides of the law,” adding that Seehorn is “a wonderfully funny actress capable of great depth.”
The show has already been greenlit for a second season of 13 episodes, although the first season won’t debut until next year, because AMC hate you and want you to suffer. Explaining the delay, Vince Gilligan said “we have a way of doing things that is slower than most TV shows.” No duh, Vince Gilligan.
Above is the second new still released from the show.

Better Call Saul is an adaptation of the popular Twitter account ‘S**t My Dad Says’, and is about a former child piano prodigy who moves to Portland and opens an artisanal lantern-making business with his cranky old father.
