All Flights From Australia to Bali Cancelled Thanks to Stupid Volcanic Ash Cloud

UPDATE: As of 10.15am, various sources are reporting that flights to Darwin and Denpasar will likely resume in the coming hours, as the ash cloud disperses.

Hope you weren’t planning a trip to Bali at any point in the next few days – all flights between here and there have been cancelled, thanks to a massive cloud of volcanic ash from Indonesia, which is presently sweeping across the northern part of Australia.

The Sangeang Api volcano, on the Indonesian island of Sangeang, erupted Friday night, and sent a cloud of ash towards Australia. Flights to Darwin were cancelled on Friday night, and as of Saturday night, flights to Denpasar are also grounded.

There are actually three separate clouds in play, all of which are behaving like a gigantic ash-holes at this point. They’ve already affected flights to the East Kimberley airport in Western Australia, and authorities are worried that there could be delays as far as Brisbane.

The major airlines have promised stranded passengers that they will resume flights as soon as it’s safe to do so, and have advised those who have been affected to keep checking their websites for details.

It is unknown why the Sangeang Api volcano erupted, but it’s entirely possible that it saw Seven‘s recent What Really Happens In Bali and decided “fuck this, I’m done with you Aussies for now, all you bogans can go ahead and eat my dust.”
