AAMI’s Rhonda Nabs First Major Role In Paper Giants Sequel

Apparently we’re not the only ones who see an entire universe of emotion behind the radiant self-smile Rhonda pulls in AAMI’s new Safe Driver rewards campaign.

The actress who plays her, Mandy McElhinney, who has previously featured in Kath and Kim, Water Rats, Ship To Shore, Blue Heelers, All Saints and At Home With Julia, has been cast in her first dramatic lead role in ABC TV’s Paper Giants: the Birth of Cleo sequel, Paper Giants: Magazine Wars. The former Comedy Inc. player will don voluminous hair and shoulder pads as Nene King, the former Editor of Kerry Packer’s Women’s Day and rival of Rupert Murdoch’s New Idea Editor Dulcie Boling, played by Rachel Griffiths. Oh yeah, Golden Globe winning Emmy nominees who were in Six Feet Under are in this too.

“We’re very excited to have Rachel and Mandy playing these formidable women,” producer Mimi Butler said in a statement. “It’s been a dream story to work on, the drama’s all there – it’s quite Shakespearian. Set in the kingdoms of Packer and Murdoch; there’s rivalry and rebellion, love and tragedy, and great victories along the way – all taking place amid the decadence and rock and roll of the ’80s and ’90s.”

Shooting for the sequel is due to start in August in Melbourne.
