10 Things You Didn’t Know About Orgasm

I know what you’re thinking – when did Pedestrian become the sealed section of Cosmo Magazine? Well rest assured guys this isn’t an arbitrary traffic grabbing sex post. You won’t have to answer questions about your partner’s waning libido or your favourite brand of body butter (I can’t believe its not body butter?). Nope, nothing lowbrow like that – we’re talking cold hard scientific facts about orgasm courtesy of that black hole for my attention, spare time, brain cells and bandwidth the TED Conference.

The site recently published a video in which speaker Mary Roach, an American Science writer and author of “Bonk” shared some obscure orgasm facts with TED conference goers. Definitely less boring than watching Al Gore talk about climate change and if you have the time I highly recommend you watch the video below.

The 10 things are:

1.) A fetus can masturbate in utero.
2.) You don’t need genitals.
3.) You can have them when you’re dead.
4.) They can cause bad breath.
5.) They can cure hiccups.
6.) Doctors once prescribed them for fertility.
7.) Pig farmers still do.
8.) Animals orgasm more than we think they do.
9.) There was an instrument developed in lab studies — a camera attached to a phallus — to study what happens inside a woman’s vagina when she climaxes.
10.) Kinsey conducted, for lack of a better term, jerk-off in which he lined men up next to each other and had them ejaculate in order to study how far semen can shoot.
