Spilt Milk Fest Apologises For Rapper YG Asking Women In Audience To Flash Him

After complaints on social media, Canberra festival Spilt Milk has apologised for the actions of US rapper YG, who, according to ABC‘s Hack, started a chant demanding women up on the shoulders of friends “show us your titties“.

In the replies to a punter’s complaint on Facebook, Spilt Milk wrote:

The comments made by YG on stage were not ok. When this behaviour goes unchallenged, we are part of the problem, not the solution. We thank the courageous people who have voiced their feelings, so this disrespectful and predatory behaviour is exposed for what it is.

We apologise that our stage was used in this manner and for not becoming aware sooner. YG’s comments in no way reflect the values of Spilt Milk and contradict our goals of a safe and inclusive space for all attendees. We can not, and will never, control an artist’s performance, but we will continue to focus our bookings on forward thinking artists that share our values.

To anyone who takes part in this discussion, please consider that many people experience this and other types of predatory behaviour daily. Take the time to listen, learn and be part of the change. If you do not take part respectfully your comments will be deleted.

Yesterday, the woman was one of many to complain about YG’s behaviour. She wrote that the rapper “stop[ped] his set to berate woman [sic] to ‘show their titties’ and chant[ed] it untli girls felt the need to expose themselves so he could continue his set was DISGUSTING“.

According to Hack’s report, one person who complained to the festival about YG received death threats on their post.

At a show earlier this year in the US, YG asked women to flash him. Last year, he also encouraged women at an all-ages gig in Brisbane to take their tops off. Back in 2016 at a show in Canada, he pressured a woman to strip naked and hop on a friend’s shoulders in front of the audience.

Last year a number of women told PEDESTRIAN.TV that security guards at Spilt Milk refused to let them in with tampons, sunscreen and pain meds.
