Steve Irwin Is Getting A Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star Thanks To Russell Crowe

Australian icon and ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin will be commemorated next month with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

In a morning ceremony on April 26, Irwin will be the 2,635th person to receive a star on the walk. Talking to Channel 7, Terri, Bindi and Bob Irwin confirmed they’d all be present at the ceremony.

Really, [this is] a culmination of a lot of work from a lot of people who believe that Steve should totally get this recognition,” Terri told 7 News.

One of those people was Russell Crowe, who Terri said wrote a letter of recommendation to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the overlords who determine which stars deserve a spot on the coveted walk.

That’s why a lot of celebrities often receive a spot that’s long overdue – the bureaucratic process requires a formal letter of recommendation from a third party. Onya, Russ.

If accepted, the ceremony requires an USD $30,000 (AUD $38.704) donation that goes towards the walk’s upkeep and maintenance. Terri Irwin thanked tourism agency Visit Sunshine Coast for helping with the funds.

The spot will be on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Iguana Vintage Clothing Shop, which is cute.

Also cute: a couple of Australian animals will be present at the ceremony, though Irwin specified that they already lived in Los Angeles.

Steve Irwin passed away 12 years ago in 2006, when the 44-year-old was killed by a stingray during filming on the Great Barrier Reef.
