CRIKEY: Steve Irwin Is Getting A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The almighty Steve Irwin shuffled off the mortal coil to save mythical beasts on the other side back in 2006. Behind, he left a huge legacy of not only animal conservation and wildlife work, but a vast catalogue of television and entertainment work that arguably has no rivals in terms of animal-based entertainers.

Seems fitting then that the late Irwin is finally being honoured on the ever-present and instantly recognisable Hollywood Walk of Fame class of 2018. Frankly, it’s probably overdue.
Irwin is one of two posthumous inductees to be awarded stars on the walk in this year’s extremely extensive class, which honours members of the film, TV, music, theatre, and radio industries.
This year’s class of inductees is particularly stacked, and includes the likes of Jack Black, Kirsten Dunst, “Weird” Al Yankovic, Jeff Goldblum (!!!), Gillian Anderson (!!!!), Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bernie Mac (the other posthumous inclusion in this year’s class), RuPaul (!!!!!!), Jennifer Lawrence, Minnie Mouse, Mark Hamill, Zoe Saldana, Nick Nolte, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Sir Richard Branson, Ice T, Harry Connick Jr, and Carrie Underwood. *exhales*
Terri Irwin issued a statement to media on Steve’s induction to the Walk of Fame, the nomination of which was sponsored by Tourism Queensland.

“Steve has always said that he didn’t care if anyone remembered him, as long as they remembered his message. I truly believe that this recognition for Steve’s achievements will ensure that his message of wildlife conservation is remembered.”

The nominations aren’t so much a process of straight-up honouring as they are more a financial one, but regardless it’s a huge honour.

Nominees now have two years to schedule a star unveiling ceremony.
The ultimate honour. Having your name on a tile outside a vape store on Hollywood Boulevard.
Miss you, Steve-o.
