When Twitter’s not being a wildly hot mess of hate and endless arguments, it delivers the goods and by goods I mean Amy Poehler telling the NRA to “fuck off” for using a GIF of Leslie Knope in one of their gun-agenda Tweets.
Ah, sweet, sweet Twitter, there is some light in you still.
So this is what started it all: the NRA sent out a Tweet (with said GIF) thanking spokesperson Dana Loesch “for being the voice of over 5 Million #NRA members” at the CNN town hall event where students confronted Florida’s politicians and the NRA.
Beside the fact that seventeen innocent lives were lost in America’s worst high-school shooting to date last Wednesday, the NRA have continued to sing their song promoting gun laws across the nation. The Tweet is just one of three the NRA had on their feed about the event. Another was a retweet of The Reagan Battalion who compared Dana to “Ironwoman” for doing her part. Yep.
Unsurprisingly, some Americans (and the rest of the world) are frustrated, upset, and just pissed off. Just today, survivors of the massacre fronted President Donald Trump demanding change in gun laws so something like this never happens again.
So you can understand the backlash the NRA attracted when lovable and definitely-not-a-gun-wielding Leslie appeared on their feed.
Of course, it didn’t take long for Twitter to respond and then Parks and Rec co-creator, Michael Schur, put his cyber foot down and well, you really just want to see this for yourself.
‘Cos even though Amy doesn’t even have Twitter, she knows when the good name of Leslie Knope is being dragged through the mud.
Hi, please take this down. I would prefer you not use a GIF from a show I worked on to promote your pro-slaughter agenda.
Also, Amy isn’t on twitter, but she texted me a message: “Can you tweet the NRA for me and tell them I said fuck off?” https://t.co/YXSdzCdvdd

Glorious. Just glorious.
And then our beloved human puppy, Adam Scott sent out this Tweet.
Hey @nra please stay the fuck away from Leslie Knope. https://t.co/Lr2HCeN7qp

Boom.
And then. The one and only Nick Offerman joined the party and things hit a new level.
.@NRA @DLoesch our good-hearted show and especially our Leslie Knope represent the opposite of your pro-slaughter agenda – take it down and also please eat shit. 🇺🇸 https://t.co/Ar2YF4yoic

Yeah, NRA, eat shit. I won’t even say ‘please’ because you don’t deserve it.
With so many terrible things happening around the world today, at least there’s a little something that might just make us smile again.
