One of the greatest gifts popular culture has given to the world in the last fifteen years is this: Natalie Portman, rapping like a homicidal maniac on Saturday Night Live back in 2006.
I’d say I account for at least 45,000 of the more than 3 million views this short has accumulated. There’s just something about watching a diminutive, serious actress smash a bottle over her own head while screaming about the acts of shocking violence she’s planning to commit that really makes you feel alive.
And now, twelve years later, Natalie Portman is back on SNL, not only hosting the show and putting in a stellar performance as Eleven from Stranger Things, but also revisiting her rap career with ‘Natalie’s 2nd Rap‘.
As the new interviewer points out, it is pretty much exactly the same thing but with current references, and yeah, it rules.

Xannies dissolving in her pinot? Check. Threats to murder kids’ parents? Check. Fucken Portman in full Queen Amidala regalia commanding an SNL lackey suck the 17 dicks of Jar Jar Binks? Hell to the check.
Also Andy Samberg is back in his Viking outfit again. Love that guy.
The people: they love it.

Natalie Portman just straight up killed it on SNL with a rap where she went up and defended the prequels. Dressed up as Amidala and everything. #starwars is life. #NataliePortman #padmeamidala #lol #SNL

I didn’t think it was possible to top the original Natalie’s Rap until I saw Natalie Portman in full Queen Amidala costume. This could be the best episode of the season #SNL

Lessons learned from this most recent instalment of her hectic alter ego? Don’t fuck with the Portman. Ya bish.
P.S. If you’re keen to watch the vid, you’ll have to put up with it, ‘cos it’s totally unavailable in Australia.
