Sam Worthington “Worth” His Weight In Box Office Gold

Lame puns aside, Sam Worthington is becoming the most sought after actor in Hollywood as the next chapter in Real Aussie Blokes begins – leaving Russell Crowe nothing more than an overweight leaguey with bad hair.

Worthington’s latest offer is a lead role in McG’s upcoming action rom/com ‘This Means War’. Action rom/com? That sounds dangerously similar to the genre used to describe ‘Mr And Mrs Smith’. The film is about two childhood friends (Sam is one, the other is Chris Pine from ‘Star Wars’) who also happen to be veteran spies. (Shiiiit… that’s even MORE ‘Mr And Mrs Smith’-ish.) When they fall for the same girl (Reese Witherspoon) they set out to wage warfare on each other. To give you an indication of the kind of role we’re talking about, it was originally written specifically for “funny guy” Martin Lawrence. Wortho will kill it though.

His decision to take the part will also depend on whether he accepts the lead in ‘Man on a Ledge’, about an ex-cop attempting suicide from the roof of a Manhattan hotel. The Australian actor will also make his debut as producer on two films he’ll be starring in: Quatermain a sci-fi adaptation based on H. Rider Haggard’s 1885 novel King Solomon’s Mines and The Last Days of American Crime, based on the comic book series written by Rick Remender. He’s one hell of an ambitious guy. Let’s just hope he doesn’t turn into Tom Cruise any time soon.

Worthington is already set to star in the second installment of ‘Avatar’ and ‘Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future’. Funemployed in Hollywood.
