The End Is Nigh: “Girls” Reportedly Set To Finish After Season Six

Good news for people who like bad news, it would seem that the end is nigh for Girls. The hit HBO series looks likely to wrap up for good at the conclusion of the as-yet unannounced sixth season.

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that “sources” have confirmed the Lena Dunham/Judd Apatow series will wrap up after season six, which is likely to hit screens in early 2017.
The show is gearing up for the fifth season premiere, due to hit screens on February 21st.
The series’ co-showrunner Jenni Konner stated after the fourth season finale that the production would have a better feel for how long the series would last after the fifth season was mapped out.

“I would say season five — I’m hoping, will really inform how much further we want to go. Once we figure out what season five is, we’ll know whether it’s another year.”

“Maybe it’s just one more year, maybe we wrap it up in six. It all depends. But also we’re not in the business of running it into the ground. We would like to end in a graceful place. And we’d like to tell a complete story. What that means is that we really have to start building towards an end soon, creatively.”

Girls was a major cornerstone in HBO’s development of a block of niche, critically acclaimed comedy, and took Lena Dunham from an indie-filmmaker into a household name.

As for what’s to come afterwards, who would know for sure. But the cast at large is already experiencing career breakouts as a result of the show.
Enjoy it while it lasts, pals. There may not be much of it left.
And in the meantime, get hyped for season five by watching the trailer (again).
