Ricky Gervais To Reprise David Brent Role In ‘The Office’ Feature-Length Spinoff

The difference between Dunder Mifflin and Wenham Hogg in US and UK versions ‘The Office’ was always glaring. The UK original got off on a brand of cringe that makes Larry David’s ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ look like Miss Marple; the US take had the blessing of Steve Carrell at its epicentre, and was so accessible, it lasted a staggering nine seasons.

But nothing was more glaring than the difference between David Brent and Michael Scott.
I mean..? Pls.
But exactly how fucked up Ricky Gervais’ portrayal of evil incarnate was made British office what it was. And now, David Brent is coming back.
Today, BBC One have announced their co-funding and distribution of Ricky Gervais’ feature-length ‘The Office’ spinoff, starring the insufferable king himself, titled ‘Life On The Road’. In a statement, BBC said:
“Expect the same brand of barbed, furious humour that Gervais has become notorious for over the years, though I wouldn’t exactly expect the level of giddy awkwardness that made his award-show-hosting gigs so infamous and, occasionally, insufferable. Still, Brent is one of the great comedic creations of the aughts and is one the few deserving of further exploration as a character.”

Life On The Road’ will bring back the documentary-style of Gervais’ original; this time, they’ll be following Brent’s new business venture as a travelling salesman.

Its official synopsis reads:
“LIFE ON THE ROAD sees a documentary crew catching up with Brent – former star of hit series The Office and now working as a travelling salesman – as he chases his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a UK tour with his band, “Foregone Conclusion.”
No release date as of yet for ‘Life On The Road’. But it’s official. Your favourite worst human is back.
