Michelle Obama Wanted A Female Power Anthem, And Missy Elliott Delivered

Barack Obama’s stint as the most powerful man in the free world is up, sharpish. His Presidency has been defined by an endless slog to get his reforms through an unwilling Congress, and if you think about it, Michelle Obama’s efforts to get her message of gender equality and educational opportunities through to the American people hasn’t been too easy either.

Now, because a) she’s still the First Lady, meaning she can do whatever she damn well pleases, and b) that title gives her mad connects, Obama has commissioned an empowering single for the benefit of the Let Her Learn initiative.

The difference between This Is For My Girls and lesser fundraising #tunes is Missy bloody Elliott, who has continued her career renaissance by jumping on the track alongside Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monae, Kelly Clarkson, Lea Michele, and more.

Maybe her man would’ve had more luck politically if he got Misdemeanour to big-up his policies over a beat. Anyway, listen to her see the tune out below, before hiking over to iTunes and purchasing a copy for yourself:

// Autosize iframe var funcSizeResponse = function( e ) { var origin = document.createElement( ‘a’ ); origin.href = e.origin;

// Verify message origin if ( ‘wpcomwidgets.com’ !== origin.host ) return;

// Verify message is in a format we expect if ( ‘object’ !== typeof e.data || undefined === e.data.msg_type ) return;

switch ( e.data.msg_type ) { case ‘poll_size:response’: var iframe = document.getElementById( e.data._request.frame_id );

if ( iframe && ” === iframe.width ) iframe.width = ‘100%’; if ( iframe && ” === iframe.height ) iframe.height = parseInt( e.data.height );

return; default: return; } }

if ( ‘function’ === typeof window.addEventListener ) { window.addEventListener( ‘message’, funcSizeResponse, false ); } else if ( ‘function’ === typeof window.attachEvent ) { window.attachEvent( ‘onmessage’, funcSizeResponse ); } } if (document.readyState === ‘complete’) { func.apply(); /* compat for infinite scroll */ } else if ( document.addEventListener ) { document.addEventListener( ‘DOMContentLoaded’, func, false ); } else if ( document.attachEvent ) { document.attachEvent( ‘onreadystatechange’, func ); } } )();
