Queen of the Diva Antics, Mariah Carey, has had a pretty loose 2K17.
After ringing in the year with a spectacularly cooked New Year’s Eve performance, her hyped up reality show, ‘Mariah’s World‘, is apparently a disaster (each to their own, though – I reckon ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians‘ is a quiet masterpiece), and her publicised failed engagement with standard Aussie bloke/millionaire, James Packer shifted into an equally as scandalous dalliance with her backup dancer Bryan Tanaka.
But we’ve gotta keep in mind that this is Mariah Carey we’re talking about – the no bullshit, effortlessly fierce popstar who insists on wearing sunglasses in fluorescent lighting and has the falsetto of a baby chipmunk.
So, naturally, Carey has clapped back in the only way she knows how in the face of a bumpy start to the year – by writing a sassy breakup ballad that claims no responsibility for the dissolution of her relationship with Packer (and fair bloody call – it would have so been all his fault).
In classic Mariah fashion, she dropped the new track at the end of the finale for ‘Mariah’s World‘. The soulful tune – aptly titled ‘I Don’t’ – is exactly what you would expect from the diva. It’s raw, it’s real, there are a shitload of really high notes, and the message is empowering.
“You messed up all we had / Probably think I’m coming back / But I don’t, I don’t.”
Who doesn’t feel thrilled by a not-so subtle James Packer diss? Tell him, Mariah. You do you.
