Look, I think we’re at the point where, as a civilisation, we need to come to terms with a simple fact: big food events simply do not work. The model is cooked. Any sort of ticketed event modelled on music festivals where you are supposed to sample and enjoy from a range of culinary options along with a billion other punters is guaranteed to be a shit time.
This was proven by A Moveable Feast – a series of annual “large scale dining events” – which took place down in Bondi over the weekend. Attendees, of which there were a whopping 3,000, were supposed to head down to the beach and enjoy an eight-course meal catered by celebrity chef Luke Mangan. Oh, and they paid up to $500 to go along. That is a significant chunk of change.
One might assume that furnishing an eight-course meal (plus alcohol) for 3,000 hungry punters on the beach might social media are anything to go by, they could have done better.

The comment section on their Facebook complain of shambolic organisation, hours-long wait times for food, an alcohol queue stretching for hours, music cut off at 10:30pm and an overall bloody shit time – including this absolute smackdown:
bbbbbrap brap brap
Many punters complained that when they managed to break free from the hungry mosh they were forced to hop across Beach Road and pick their nosh up from the local Domino’s. The page is currently flooded with people demanding refunds.
There you have it, folks. That’s how the world ends. Not with a bang, but with a poorly organised Sydney food festival.
