DFA1979, Rick Ross Help VICE Celebrate .Com Takeover

VICE Magazine typically don’t need a reason to throw a huge party.

But it’s not every day you finally get a domain you’ve been wanting for fifteen years. The infamous hipster bible finally acquired the rights to Vice.com this week, a domain which was previously home to a porn site whose owner audaciously tried to charge the Canadian media outlet $1 million for it way back in 1998. Obviously straight smut is out and editorialised smut is in, because they’ve finally wrangled it back.

To celebrate, VICE took over Brooklyn’s Skylight One Hanson and called in all their musical favours, which included a live show from DFA1979 (in Australia next week for Parklife), DJ sets from the Black Lips and Nick Zinner and a headlining set from none other than rapper Rick Ross.

VICE Founder Shane Smith also announced new plans for the ‘Do’s And Don’ts kids’ impending takeover of the planet, which include a new series on HBO and content-sharing agreements with The Huffington Post, The Guardian and Der Spiegel (Germany).

Can’t wait to see those half-naked American Apparel ads on the back of a newspaper.
