The rare night where Sydney‘s Oxford St gets absolutely blasted with colour is almost upon us. Yep that’s right it’s Mardi Gras season and the whole two-week long party is, as always, going out with a huge bang this weekend, so here are some cheeky tips on how to watch the 2019 Mardi Gras parade.

It’s time to get those dancing shoes out of the cupboard again, and get yourself into the mood to boogie and celebrate everything about inclusivity and equality, or if you’re not able to get yourself to Oxford St, stay the hell home and watch the whole thing on TV.
But where can you watch it from if you’re not prepared to spend your whole Saturday afternoon camped out on the side of the street, timing your piss breaks down to the second and praying it won’t rain?
We thought we’d sort you with a handy guide on where you can catch all the fabulous costumes, choreography, and generally semi-contained chaos of the 2019 Sydney Mardi Gras.
1. Get Off The Street
Even if you don’t want to be in the thick of it as the parade saunters past, there’s plenty of vantage points where you can sneak a peek. You could try your luck at iconic Oxford St haunts like The Colombian, The Burdekin, and Stonewall, but definitely try your luck at hole-in-the-wall spots like Chinaglings and The Standard Bowl, or try your luck further up the parade route with Kinselas, The Oxford Hotel, The Local Taphouse, or The Courthouse Hotel.
2. Stream It To Me Baby
If you wanna stay home and don’t have your TV hooked up, or don’t HAVE a TV (that’s a conversation for another day my friend) or you’re in a place where you can’t pick up the telecast but want to know how to watch the 2019 Mardi Gras parade, you can jump online and check out the SBS live stream. Easy as.
3. Head To The Pub
Still wanna go out for a drink to celebrate but don’t want to be anywhere near the city? I can’t blame you. There’s plenty of spots around the city that will very likely be live streaming the parade, and LGBTQI+ venues like The Imperial in Erskineville, The Bearded Tit in Redfern, and The Beresford in Darlinghurst will be rightfully off-chops.
4. Bung On The Telly
As always, SBS is the official broadcaster for the Mardi Gras parade. Hosted by Narelda Jacobs, Patrick Abboud, Joel Creasey, and Zoë Coombs Marr, tune into SBS On Demand from around 7pm, or follow along on the broadcaster’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
And if you want to re-live the whole thing again while you’re dusty on the couch, peeling off your lashes, and massaging your feet from a night of partying, SBS is broadcasting the whole thing again from 8pm on Sunday, March 4.
If you’re absolutely adamant about getting down to the street and watching it with your own two eyes, a hot tip on how to watch the 2019 Mardi Gras parade is to go off the main road and opt for a spot on Flinders St – the crowds are usually a bit more chill around there.
