The Finders Keepers Guide To Wining, Dining And Shopping In Adelaide

When Australians plan local holidays Adelaide tends to take a back seat to the more photogenic and heavily marketed regions like The Alice, Sydney and the Queensland coastline, however the City Of Churches boasts major annual festivals (such as WOMADelaide), incredible local produce and of course wine, great beaches and one of the most scenic CBDs in the country. We enlisted Kate Anderson and Amy Hicks, the lovely Adelaide-based design team behind women’s brand findersKEEPERS to lend us their local knowledge of the best their home town has to offer.

Where can you grab a great cup of coffee? We always go to Coffee Branch on Leigh street, especially when it is ‘Pastry Friday’. There are also some cute cocktail bars popping up for a cheeky after dinner drink. Gouger street is also home to the Adelaide Central Markets which are open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. These markets have an array of fresh produce and atmosphere. Chinatown Café is one of our favourite spots for a delicious laksa.

How should you spend a beautiful summer’s day in Adelaide? We are torn on this one. Adelaide has so many beautiful beaches. It’s great to head down to Brighton or Glenelg for a quick dip on a scorching summers day. Otherwise we love heading to the river. Mannum is just under an hour drive from the city and if you have access to a boat, wake boarding and relaxing on the river bank is an awesome way to spend the day.

What’s the best day trip from Adelaide? Day tripping through the McLaren Vale wine region or the Adelaide Hills is always fun! If you are heading south you need to try Alpha Box & Dice or d’Arenberg winery. Or if you are heading through the hills our favourites would have to be Shaw and Smith and the Lane.

Quaff a Shiraz or five at the picturesque Shaw And Smith tasting room.

Where would you take a serious ‘foodie’?
Definitely to the Barossa Valley…..this whole area is filled with foodie delights! Maggie Beer is a real food institution and definitely a must see. You can head to her Farm Shop where she does cooking demonstration and grab a bite to eat.

What is Adelaide’s best kept secret? We recently shot our Jan editorial at Second Valley. Its about an hours drive out of Adelaide and it seriously one of the most beautiful places we have been too. Think rolling hills and beautiful beaches. There is also some cute accommodation down there as we definitely recommend staying the night.

Ocean to one side, forest to the other. It doesn’t get much better-looking than that.
