The GTA V modding community is an incredibly active one, putting everything from Rick & Morty to the NSW Police into the popular game. This time, they wanna take you to space, man.
Grand Theft Space is currently in development with a team of 11 modders and while they have a long way to go, it’s looking pretty damn schmick so far. The small team posted a trailer which you can view below.
It’s worth noting that a mod like this is a huge fucking undertaking and may never even see the light of day. Far less ambitious projects have failed over the smallest bumps in the road, so keep that in mind before you get your hopes too high.
Also, this isn’t just throwing some skins into the already established game, this is creating a brand new playable world outside of Los Santos. The game has flirted with the idea of space travel before, but has never allowed players to leave the planet.
“I’ve seen map-editor satellites and space ship looking vehicles,” wrote sollaholla, the project’s lead. “But nobody seems to have ever made it so you can actually go in space. So I said, ‘Screw it, I’m gonna make a space mod.’”
The team hope to have space flight, four missions, alien combat and planet exploration available when the mod eventually launches. When will that be, you ask? Dunno, mate, the closest thing to a date we have is the “COMING SOON” at the end of the trailer.
More importantly, the team’s main focus is creating a foundation for other keen modders to add their own content, making it a wider community project rather than a closed off mod.
It’s pretty damn cool, so hopefully it is fully realised. I wanna to the space travels.
