Google Has Blurred The Face Of The Big Prawn & Fuck That’s So Shellfish

In Australia, we love building enormous statues of fairly average shit for no good reason other than amusement. The Big Banana, The Big Pineapple, The Big Lobster, and so on.

We also have The Big Prawn in the NSW town of West Ballina, and it’s… Well it’s a big fucking prawn. It does what it says on the tin. But as Reddit user greggobbard points out, The Big Prawn has caught the attention of Google‘s automated face-blurring technology, so good luck trying to see the giant salty boy on Street View.

But hey, who are we to deny Mr. Prawn his privacy? He just wants to live his life in peace. I jumped on Street View to have a look for myself and sure enough, the face is certainly blurred, but only from certain angles.

If you move slightly closer, the blur is less apparent and from further down the street, you can’t see it at all.

As is usually the case on Reddit, some of the top responses in the thread have been absolute bloody gold.

It’s not the first time Google’s tech has gone on the fritz, either. Back in 2016, it was blurring the faces of cows in Cambridge for some reason. The company’s response was pretty great, though.

“We thought you were pulling the udder one when we herd the moos, but it’s clear that our automatic face-blurring technology has been a little overzealous,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement.

A face is a face, folks. Google’s gonna blur it.
