We Asked Jen Hawkins What She’s Spending Her Fashion Cash On This Summer

If there’s one person we wanna hear from when it comes to what threads we should be stocking our wardrobes with this summer, it’s Jen Hawkins. The long-time model has been the face of Myer for yonks, so she really knows her shit. She’s also a bit of a style icon in her own right, nailing that breezy, all-Aussie summer aesthetic year after year.

We hit the uber-model up for what she’s spending her cash on this season, so we can copy her.

DENIM

Jen’s a bit of a denim fanatic, it seems. She’s got no issues repping jeans in high summer. And look – same here, Jen. Jeans forever. So the first thing she’s going to be restocking is all her denim.

I’ll buy a few pairs of jeans. Boyfriend cut, distressed denim, and maybe a little denim short.

If you’re in the market for new jeans, the 80’s aesthetic is alive and well. Why not try bringing knee-length fitted shorts back with a wide tan belt? It’s a thing, trust me.

NEW SEASON KICKS

Jen was adamant that most of her shopping cash was going toward shoes.

For me, I usually update my wardrobe each season with a new pair of flats, a new pair of sneakers, and a pair of heels that I can go between.

Makes sense – you can totally get away with your fashion from last year if your shoe game is on point. Plus, shoes wear down quick-smart – and scuffs aren’t cute unless they’re on boots or sneaks. So if your slides are looking a bit worse for wear…

BOHEMIAN PRINTS

This summer, monochrome-loving Jen said she wants to branch out into colour and print. If you’re in the same boat, summer’s the best time to reinvent yourself.

I’m really loving bohemian prints, so I’d really love to update my wardrobe a little with that trend. I typically go for basics – black, white, grey, muted tones. But for summer I really want to inject some colour into my wardrobe. So I’ve had my eye out for some clashing prints and beautiful bohemian styles, like ruching, tassels, and fringing.

Jen’ll be heading straight for We Are Kindred. The Aussie brand is all about feminine shapes and soft, floaty materials. Perfect for a steamy Aussie summer.

EYE-CATCHING DESIGNS

When it comes to splurging, Jen goes for designers who are producing flattering, unique shapes and have a real signature to their collections.

Yeojin Bae‘s done some great colour this season, and then Toni Maticevski‘s outfits are absolutely beautiful if you want to go monochromatic in your aesthetic. I’m also obsessed with Asilio. I just think they’re incredible, all of their designs. They’ve got a really great collection.

HATS

Here’s a weird one – Jen’s really into hats. She literally updates her hat collection each summer. I think I own maybe half a hat. Because my dog ate the other half. But hey – they’re sun-safe and they totally make some outfits, so I’m down with it.

I’m a hat girl, so every summer I end up having to updated my wardrobe when it comes to hats. I’ll buy a medium brim, wide brim, a trucker cap, and a dad cap.

ONE MULTI-SEASON JACKET

You know how you buy all your summer threads in spring, and it’s juuust not entirely warm enough to waltz around in them yet? Jen’s suggestion is one killer transitional jacket.

I think an oversized denim jacket is key for summer, especially when we’re in the in-between weather of Spring. It was quite cold yesterday for example so I just layered one over my summer dress. It just works with everything, so if you go out in the day but then there’s a cool breeze in the afternoon, I’ll throw one over my shoulders and it still keeps everything looking really chic.
