A documentary about the elusive designer Martin Margiela is being released later this month.
The reclusive designer has always kept to himself, rarely being interviewed, photographed or even seen at his own runway shows. So how will he star in a documentary about himself?
The trailer shows only glimpses of the designer, cut with Jean Paul Gaultier and Suzy Menkes discussing Margiela and the influence he has had on the industry.
Suzy Menkes believes Margiela’s purposeful isolation has worked in his favour, saying,
“By not showing his identity, I think that Martin Margiela became more exciting, people wondered what he was like – there was a mystery that surrounded him.”
The documentary is premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend, and will be released on April 27th.
