WATCH: Eric Abetz Reveals He Has No Idea What Bisexuality Is On Live TV

Hooley dooley.
You joke about people who stand themselves in the way of an issue like marriage equality not fully having a grasp what they’re actually talking about, but seldom do you see it in action so plainly.
Liberal Senator Eric Abetz, Tasmania’s greatest mistake and a virulently anti-same sex marriage politician, appeared on Sky News today to again make his thoughts on the matter abundantly clear; remember its his voice that represents “the civil debate we need to have” on the matter, apparently.
Abetz has long hung his hat on the issue of “protecting” families as the core reason for his opposition to two people of the same sex getting married. This extremely odd notion that if we all same-sex marriage then people of the same sex might actually get married to each other, rather than the literal only other alternative option which is clearly giving up and getting married in a heteronormative relationship and procreating. Just as God et cetera’d it.
On Sky News today Abetz was pressed with the question of whether or not he believes gay and lesbian people can simply suppress part of themselves in order to conform and function in a heterosexual relationship. And Abetz’s answer it was ahhhh… baffling.

So… there is evidence that some people who have been in homosexual relationships have then gone on to be in heterosexual relationships.

Or, as anyone with half a clue knows it, “bisexuality.”
It feels utterly bizarre that an elected senator so doggedly determined to have his say on the issue appears so staggeringly clueless of it; citing evidence that people can be one thing and then another as a sort of booyah moment that proves the only reason people want same-sex marriage is to fulfil a flitting choice of fancy or convenience, rather than embracing their own selves fully and declaring love for the person they happen to fall for, no matter who that may be.
Further still, that Abetz has managed to carve out a 23-year on-going career in the senate – relying largely on his own slimeball politicking and coat-tail riding of the Liberal’s endless parade of cookie cutter right-wing glory boys to cruise to top billing on the Tasmanian ballot paper – where he has proven time and time again to be on the losing end of social issues is an astonishing feat. To be that wrong that consistently takes a dedication few have the stomach for.
But ah well. He’s only a lifetime burden to the Australian taxpayer no matter what, after all.
