WATCH: Ben Affleck Is Shipping Up To Boston In The ‘Live By Night’ Trailer

It’s been five years since Ben Affleck last directed a film, and that one (‘Argo‘) ended up winning the Best Picture Oscar. He’s well overdue, is what we’re saying.
And before he runs off to squeeze back into the Batsuit for the standalone ‘Batman‘ film he’s bravely taking on in this post-Dark Knight Trilogy world, he’s rightfully returning to his Massachusetts roots for another stint at the wheel of a crime thriller.
The first trailer for the Affleck directed-and-starring vehicle ‘Live by Night‘ has officially arrived, and it’s about as quintessentially Affleck as you could possibly get.
Set in the 1920s and 30s, Affleck plays the role of Joe Coughlin, the son of a Boston police captain, who moves to Florida and becomes a bootlegger, rum-runner, and notorious gangster.
The film is an adaptation of the freaking excellent award-winning novel by Dennis Lehane, working off a script penned by Affleck himself, completing his own personal triple threat for this particular production.

Tommy guns, explosions, dames, made men, and Affleck’s thick-ass Bahhhsten accent.
Honestly, what bloody more could you ever want from a film?
Live by Night‘ sports a killer cast that features Chris Messina, Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Brendan Gleeson, Elle Fanning and Anthony Michael Hall, among others.
It’s due to hit cinemas on January 13th.
