TripAdvisor Ranks The World’s Best Budget Hotels

From the “millions” of votes submitted by the site’s avid reviewing community and guilty hoteliers posting glowing, anonymous reviews in an attempt to assuage the constant deterrent of subpar breakfasts, hospitality aggregator TripAdvisor have composed their list of the Top 25 Best Budget Hotels of 2014 as part of the annual Travellers’ Choice™ Awards. It’s great news for Poors with expensive tastes and itchy feet, on account of that weird patch of moving hair you stepped on in the shower at your last hostel.

With 621 ‘Excellent’ traveller ratings, the quant Castlewood House (pictured above) in Dingle, Ireland – where the “now legendary breakfasts [are] in a league of their own!” and a double room will set you back €45 – comes in at number one, while Luz En Yucatan in Merida, Mexico, rounds out the list as an “interesting colonial hotel in a colonial city” with “excellent value”. A room there will set you back $54 USD if your earning capacity ‘is not at all successful’ and $64 if it is; apparently it’s “really quirky (GOOD quirky) and appealing”.
Only one Australian lodging made the list – Morwell Victoria’s eponymous Morwell Motel, with its “nice and warm” showers and “welcoming and friendly resident pets”. The full list reads as follows, accompanied by the most exclamation-worthy features as highlighted in the countdown:
