Topman ‘AAA’ Menswear SS12 Lookbook

Here’s one for the lads (who enjoy large doses of leopard print). Shot by Mark Kean and styled by Dazed & Confused senior fashion editor, Robbie Spencer, the cookbook lookbook (damn you, autocorrect) for TOPMAN’s rock and/or roll inspired AAA Spring/Summer 2012 collection is pretty grungy and kinda catty. And not just on account of all the leopard. You’ll see.

The AAA Camden ’78 collection takes its cues and vicious cuts from Sid Vicious (who you might remember from The Sex Pistols) and features the requisite leather jackets, black as tar/heroin skinny jeans, marled t-shirts and plaid shirts that scream high street grunge. You’ll have to forego washing these for a while to achieve that authentic Sid and Nancy stench.

It’d be cool to think that the rock ‘n roll aesthetic is finding a resurgence through the recent installation of Hedi Slimane at YSL, who popularised the aesthetic during his tenure at Dior Homme in the early oughts, but there’s probably another reason behind it.

The abundance of leopard print not only provides an interesting point of departure for most high-street menswear, but also brings to mind Ricardo Tisci’s Spring 2011 collection for Givenchy (see below). The Givenchy campaign, shot by Mert and Marcus (who also shot Madonna’s black and white S&M video for ‘Girl Gone Wild’) is also pretty similar, no?

Topman (via Topshop) is set to open in Sydney come August. You can find the ‘AAA’ collection in the Melbourne store now.
