The US Is Getting Belted By A Hell Of A Snowstorm Right Now

Spare a thought or two for your brothers and sisters across the pond in the grand old U-S-of-A. At the moment people in the country’s north eastern regions – including New York City – are bunkering down to ride out Winter Storm Juno, which is blowing its way through the continent and dropping big heaps of snow everywhere in the process, in what weather forecasters are calling a “historic” snowstorm.

And just before we continue and before you break out the glowsticks, I said SNOWstorm. Not, y’know…

How bad is the storm exactly? Check out the weather radar currently.
Those blue bits? That’s snow. And it’s covering an area of a lazy 600kms or so. In fact, forecasters have been suggesting that blizzard conditions will persist in the area at least through till Wednesday American time, with the potential of dumping anywhere in the vicinity of two feet of snow during the worst of it.
Predictably, it’s thrown things in the bigger cities in absolute chaos, particularly in the entertainment industry. Broadway has all but shut down, with most shows closing while the storm hangs around. The WWE has been forced to cancel their planned live edition of Monday Night Raw. The NBA announced they will be postponing the planned games between the New York Knicks and the Sacramento Kings, as well as the game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Portland Trail-Blazers. And a swathe of artists have been forced to either postpone or cancel planned shows, including Marilyn Manson, Action Bronson, Louis CK, Ne-Yo and Savages.
Meanwhile, the photos have been rolling in, and they’re pretty incredible.

‘Course it’s nice to know that people haven’t lost their sense of humour about things either.

Keep warm, American friends! Let it be known we’re thinking of you.

Whilst we sip delicious fruity cocktails.
Because we’re in Australia.
Where it’s hot.
