Sydney DJ And Hot Dog Connoisseur Levins Launches Tasty Web Series

If you’ve never considered the venerable deep-fried hot dog among your list of respectable snacking foods, set your phasers to ‘major food ideology breakthrough’ because you’re about to want one real bad. If anyone knows good hot dogs it’s Sydney snack aficionado, Levins, who, with his lovely wife Bianca, heads up The Dip – the American Diner-inspired snack palace at Goodgod Small Club in the Sydney CBD. Levins has just launched a web series titled “Levins Eating Food” which is exactly what it sounds like. We had a quick chat to Levins about his latest project, the first episode of which you can watch below. It’s called “Levins Eating Food Episode One – Sydney’s Best Hot Dogs!”.

PEDESTRIAN: When did you come up with the idea to spruik food made by other people as opposed to your own?
LEVINS: I love driving around and find new things to eat. Sydney has a lot of kool secret spots that I visit a lot and “Levins Eating Food” is about sharing those spots with others!

The first episode is on hotdogs; can you give us a clue about what kind of tasty things will be featured in coming episodes?
Banh Mi, Pizza, Ramen and guides to different parts of Sydney. I’ll be asking a few friends to join me on my journeys too.

Are you planning to keep the focus of “Levins Eating Food” solely on Sydney destinations?
For now yeah, but if I’m ever somewhere else with a camera I’ll try to do one there too!

Who are your favourite on-screen chefs (or eaters) and why?
No Reservations [the food and travel show hosted by American chef Anthony Bourdain] is a great show, one that’s convinced me to plan holidays to different countries just around the food they ate in an episode. I like the Eddie Huang show Fresh Off The Boat for Vice, it’s always good when the personality of the host comes through.

What’s the secret to staying cool in front of the camera?
Knowing that as soon as the camera stops filming you can eat a tonne of food!
