You’re excused for thinking we’re talking about the quiet aftermath of a crazy night out, but The Big Comedown is the title of Stolen Girlfriends Club’s SS11/12 collection and we can assure you it’s much prettier to look at. A vibrant garden path artwork by fellow New Zeland artist Karl Maughan is digitally printed onto a variety of cuts and textures, acting as a running motif throughout the collection. Manifesting on both womens and menswear, our favourite incarnation is the maxi dress with pink panel detail for girls and a jacket and shorts combo for boys.
In what is a classic Stolen Girlfriends twist however, things are kept from turning too soft and saccharine. Balancing elements of bratty midriff-skimming tops and X Girl-worthy dresses such as the ankle length in blue and a translucent tangerine slip play down the prettiness. A Western influence also appears in cowboy shirts and the much maligned Canadian tuxedo.
