Quarantine sucks balls, doesn’t it just? It’s 10000% necessary right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s enjoyable. Still, we’re all trying to make lockdown more bearable, and my friend Jack Kealy is doing the absolute best job of this by far.
At first, I thought Jack was just dressing up as a one off, when he posted this absolutely batshit-amazing costume:
But since then, Jack has been dressing up in quarantine EVERY DAY (mostly) in a new costume. Given he’s a bit of a costume guy, he does have a plethora at the ready. But man, the creativity going into the themes is really all-time.
“My job as a microfilm developer has been mothballed so I’m at home all day for the foreseeable future. With little else to do other than be on tumblr all day or wander around the house talking to my plants, I may as well do that in a fun outfit,” Jack said of his creations.
It gives me an opportunity to enjoy and showcase these garments and things I have collected over the years, because I don’t get to wear them often. Though when I do, I am usually the one weirdo that has made too much effort at the fancy dress party.
Why does he have so many costumes? He told me he’s always been into dress ups, from school through to uni.
I’ve just slowly collected things over the years from op shops and things online. My most prized possessions have come from the Opera Australia costume sale they had a few years ago at their warehouse. I waited 2 and a half hours in line and then grabbed everything I could physically carry home with me.
Since we’re all despo for quarantine advice, I asked Jack for his.
I guess for me its maintaining any semblance of a routine or structure. even making sure you have three square meals can be enough and then start from there; adding things to do before and after, and then one or two prime objectives you want to do in the day, be it a workout or creative work. I cannot work from home so I have to force myself to do creative endeavours, such as editing some photos, or working on drawings (@jacks.portraits lel).
