Police Detain Alleged Sydney Gym Stabber After 17-Hour Rooftop Standoff

The man who allegedly stabbed three members of a gym in Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Monday night has been detained in Newcastle, following a 17-hour-long standoff with police.

Ricky Kincheila came down from the roof of a Tighes Hill building at around 4:45am this morning, before being looked over by paramedics and transported to Newcastle Police Station.

Kincheila reportedly fell asleep on the roof during the incident, and onlookers described him as looking quite relaxed during the ordeal.

His detainment follows a bizarre spate of alleged crimes. Police claim that before the alleged attack on the Brookvale gym goers, Kincheila had allegedly stolen a BMW belonging to Australian Rugby chief Bill Pulver.

It’s alleged he used that car to flee the gym, before allegedly holding up two servos in Sandgate around 9:45pm. Police then eyed Kincheila climbing atop the Tighes Hill building around 11pm.

One of the stabbing victims has been released from hospital, while the two others are recovering in stable conditions.

It’s believed police will be questioning Kincheila regarding the alleged spree later today.
