Nike Says Self-Lacing Back To The Future Kicks Will Be Available By 2015

In rapturous news for sneaker heads, Back To The Future fans and lazy people, Nike has confirmed that a functioning replica of the fabled self-lacing “Power Laces” as worn by Marty McFly in Back To The Future II will be available for purchase in 2015. A fitting release date, of course, since it’s the same year McFly traveled to when he first encountered the Best Thing About The Future Besides Hoverboards.
Nike release a replica of the most coveted fictional sneaker in pop culture history back in 2011, with proceeds raised going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease research. That was all well and good but conspicuously absent from that particular version of the shoe was the most badass function of the original. The ability to lace themselves. That will be addressed in the latest version of the shoe according to Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, who confirmed as much in a recent conference at the Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab in New Orleans. “Are we gonna see Power Laces in 2015?,” he said. “To that, I say yes!”.

Cool. All we need now is a hoverboard.
