Most Iconic Fashion Moment Of 2011: Kate Middleton

Even in the absence of a meat dress there were still a few standout “moments” in fashion this year. (You know what we mean by “moments” – it’s like when the nerd character in a Disney movie takes off her reading glasses and everyone realises she’s a prettiest girl in the whole school? Moment.)

Andrej Pejic closing the Gaultier Couture show in a bridal gown was a moment. Kate Moss as a first-time bride in John Galliano? Moment. Oddly enough, some of the most memorable fashion moments of 2011 are wedding-related – including the one that takes out the title of Most Iconic Fashion Moment of 2011: the Royal Wedding.

After months of speculation about what Kate Middleton would wear for the big day, when she emerged from the Rolls Royce in that Alexander McQueen ivory and lace gown designed by creative director Sarah Burton it was the kind of moment that Prince William’s mother had a history of creating. And for a commoner Kate Middleton looked undeniably regal in that simple but perfectly-suited dress.
