The expeditious career trajectory of Australian man-model Andrej Pejic has reached rock star status in the fashion industry after he closed Jean Paul Gaultier's show - in a tulle-ensconced bridal gown no less! - at Paris Couture Fashion Week yesterday.
For starters, Gaultier is a Frenchman so his show (themed "punk cancan") was attended by the royalty of the Paris couture scene sitting front row at Rue Saint Martin (Paris Vogue's new Editor-In-Chief Emannuelle Alt, Catherine Deneuve, Ines de la Fressange, among others). Pejic is the perfect face for Gaultier's history of crossing-over gender roles and pushing the concept of androgyny in fashion and beauty. Fittingly the models wore mohawks - a reference to JPG's early days of couture styling in the 90s - and the garments combined high camp, high punk, gorgeous tailoring and heaping sex appeal. Such theatricality could only be topped off with a stunning male bride as the grand finale.
