LONG LIVE THE TEEN DREAM: ‘Jawbreaker’ Is Copping A Super-Murdery Reboot

jawbreaker movie
Bust out your ultra-minis and frosted shadow, ’cause everyone’s favourite murdery Mean Girls precursor, Jawbreaker, is comin’ back.
Darren Stein‘s 1999 cult black comedy is about to be reimagined as a TV series for American network E!
The series will apparently move the setting to Beverly Hills, and follow a new clique trying to keep something pretty grim under wraps – only this time, it’s not a 17-year-old who’s choked to death on a jawbreaker in a car boot, but an accidental death at a bachelorette party. Just like the original, each episode will focus on the “great lengths” the women involved go to in order to keep their secret a secret.
It looks like Stein himself will be co-writing and executive producing the series, which bodes well for those of us who loved the original for its disinterest in pulling punches, being nice, or shying away from like, really freaking you out. I mean, Heathers was dark, sure, but how’s this for a closing prom scene:
Fans of the grimmest of high school beauty queen laughs – looking at you, too, Drop Dead Gorgeous stans – this is one to keep on your radar. No concrete release date yet, but a whole season of hour-long episodes full of bitchiness, blackmail and bad taste? You are gonna die.
