The internet has done it again! The most accomplished Anthropologist of them all, www.Google.com, has released the annual breakdown of the human condition and what, dear friends, are we all so curious about? Why, “did dragons exist”, of course.
The Google “Zeitgeist (German for “the spirit of the times”) collates the information from billions of search queries they receive throughout a year and presents it to us in easily digestible list form; MmmMm, delicious knowledge written consecutively, with one point after the other. Google spokesperson Shane Treeves says: “Google’s year-end Zeitgeist is a cultural barometer that provides a snapshot of the year’s big events, memorable moments and growing trends in Australia. Google is often the first place Australians turn to find out more about our heroes, learn new skills, fact-check the news, and settle dinner table disputes between friends. And just as often, we go to Google to help us answer everyday questions like whether we’ll need an umbrella tomorrow, when the next train leaves for Bondi, or how many calories are in an avocado. ”
Australia’s ‘Top Trending Searches for 2013‘ were pretty celebrity/television-centric, with 60% of the search terms related to one or the other, and then you’ve got some casual iPhone and North Korea queries thrown in for good measure:
