Former Ksubi Designer & Model To Exhibit In London

Born in Thailand and raised in Sydney, designer Au Ekbutr Udomphol is a formidable talent and one that the world is quickly taking notice of – in the August 2010 issue of British Vogue his label ‘The Only Son’ was name-checked as a label to watch, and come September he’ll be exhibiting his Summer 2011 collection at London Fashion Week .

After studying fashion at the Sydney Institute of Technology he worked with Ksubi, Sass & Bide and Imitation of Christ as a freelance designer (he also modeled at Ksubi’s notorious rat-infested 2001 Fashion Week show) before recently launching his debut signature line that ambitiously included shoes, bags, jewellery as well as both menswear and womenswear; a collection that was quickly discovered by trend clairvoyant and influential style blogger Susie Bubble who wrote, “That buzz phrase 90s minimalism supposedly is an influence but there’s a richness about the clothes, especially seen in the scarlet coat where the detailing comes in abundance – a slit here, a fold in the double layered-lapels, a criss-cross vent at the back – construction a plenty that means the effect is anything by minimal.”

While he is currently based in Thailand, Au told Dazed & Confused it won’t be long before we’re seeing his designs on our shores: “we plan to expand to the Australian market by targeting selected local retailers. We also aim to collaborate with people from different creative fields in the near future.”

Such as?

“My friend Jordan Askill is a great jewellery designer/artist, we are planning to collaborate on a jewellery collection in the near future… It will be pretty exciting if it does happen for next winter.”

Exciting indeed. Watch this space…
