Arias 2013 Red Carpet Tragedies And Triumphs

The 2013 festival of Flume, aka The 27th Annual ARIA Awards kicked off in Sydney this afternoon, with Australia’s music scene collectively tumbling onto the red carpet before hitting up The Star for the industry’s biggest night of the year.

At Pedestrian, scrutinising fashion on red carpets, especially those at The ARIAs is our jam; however it must be noted, before we launch into today’s ponderings on the tragedies and triumphs that clothe the award’s finest guests, that while Spring racing is ostensibly about sartorial (and equestrian, maybe) wins and losses, the ARIAs celebrates music, so even if tragedy does strike in the fashion stakes it’s important to remember that these people are talented with their voices, instruments and Abelton in ways that I could only ever dream of. *Shakes grain of salt across the following commentary*

Without further ado:

It pleases me a lot that Harley Streten, aka ya boy Flume is literally Doge right now, wearing the expression of a dude about to pick up a hefty slew of such awards, very accolades.

Wannabe Karl Richard Wilkins’ hair is looking more and more Rod Stewart-esque by the day. In a bad way. He has evidently told his son to troll the entire event, to which he should be congratulated.

Jessica Gomes is fierce, beautiful and was obviously invited to inject elegance into the inevitably questionable looks to follow.

Samantha Jade is ready to go figure skating and that’s okay.

I could comment on Kate Peck‘s black jumpsuit but it’s blatantly unnecessary when this face is paired with this Cruela De Vile (in a good way), absolutely flawless hair.

Gothic princess and lady of the entire world’s moment, Lorde, melts into the black carpet and doesn’t want to be here.

I take it back. A rare smile emerges.

Sam Ford and Abbe May are dressing to sartorially verbalise “do not fuck with us” and it’s working.

Emma Louise is clad in Yves Klein-inspired hues and demonstrates her power stance.

Jessica Mauboy consistently kills it on the red carpet; tonight she looks achingly gorgeous and bright in Josh Goot. *Applauds*

Sara De Bono gives in to her fire engine red hair and dresses as a terrible version of Ariel.

Missy Higgins looks chic in orange Camilla and Marc.

Tom and Alex are legends who should never stop.

Even if The Wiggles are doing their signature hand thing, they aren’t wearing skivvies and I don’t like it.

Ladies and gentlemen, Bliss n Eso.

Alicia Keys looks like a great famous person by opting for a harmless and relatively forgettable dress that is so bright you ought to not look at it directly.

Holy shit, The Rubens are so sharp it hurts.

Harrison Craig is like a deliriously happy Chuck Bass which is endearing and incredibly uncomfortable at the same time.

Guy Sebastian looks inexplicably serene; his wife Jules channels old Hollywood glamour in a perf dress. Head’s up: if you want to look as professionally chic as this duo, Jules Sebastian is leading a Pedestrian Coach session next week on celebrity styling in the digital world. Like this absurdly radiant couple, it promises to be an absolute knock out.
